FROM GLORY TO GLORY

2 Corinthians 3:18  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

In the first part of 2 Corinthians chapter 3 Paul is talking about the glory that covered the face of Moses when he came down from Mt. Sinai after receiving the Ten Commandments.  If the giving of the law was so glorious that Moses’ face was radiant, even though the law was only temporary, how much more glorious is the glory of the new covenant, our New Testament, the age of the Spirit.  Moses’ radiance was fading, but the glory of the ministry of the Spirit as we are transformed into the image of Christ is permanent and even more glorious.  Paul describes it as “from glory to glory”. Not only do we have God’s glory dwelling within us, that same glory is becoming more glorious as we allow God’s Holy Spirit to recreate us into the image of Christ.  Being filled with the Spirit of Christ and being transformed into the image of Christ are the most satisfying things in this world.

Glory is defined by Webster’s dictionary as “resplendent beauty or magnificence.”  When we see, for example, the Grand Canyon at sunset we see a glimpse of the resplendent beauty of God’s creation.  When we hear a beautiful symphony, or first hold our newborn child, or breathe deeply in a rose garden, we experience a little of God’s glory.  But, God is more magnificent than any scene or music or thing which we can imagine.  He is complete radiance, majesty and perfection and Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory.

God wants to transform your character so that it reflects His glory.  God’s plan is nothing less than a total make-over of your character so that when people see you they see Jesus reflected in your life – your thinking, your emotions, your attitudes, your values, and your behavior.  We were created for God’s majesty and God is transforming us back to the glory that mankind had before the fall of man.   Being transformed into Christ’s likeness with every increasing glory is what you were created for.
