Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
Heb 6:19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
We have witnessed rough waters in America. Many of our cherished institutions have been challenged. We are a nation deeply divided both politically and doctrinally. There are profound cracks in the foundations of our country.
In the midst of all the turmoil, there is an anchor for our soul which is firm and secure. As we rise and fall with the waves which are trying to blow us off course and sink us, it is good to remember that God is still the same. Our hope is not in our nation, nor in our political system, nor in any political party, nor in any person. Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus and His righteousness. We have seen every wind of doctrine and ideology trying to blow us off course and we have seen the “cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming”. Both the ideas which formed this nation and the character of integrity upon which many of our founders stood are being questioned and discarded. But, the Word of God stands secure, God’s character and nature stand secure and Truth hasn’t changed. God’s will and promises will be fulfilled. God is in control, even though it might not look like it right now.
Titus 1:9 is in the context of the qualifications for an elder. The elder “must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” If there ever a time when we need to be encouraging one another with sound doctrine and refute those who oppose sound doctrine, it is now. The Word of God is our anchor to reality, to Truth, to our heavenly home, and to health and healing for our souls. Let us hold firmly to the trustworthy message which we have received and anchor our soul on that which is unshakeable and eternal. Our hope isn’t in our future as a country, it’s in our future in eternity.
